February 6th, Waltham, MA, 2019;  On the back of last week’s announcement that the GPS Memorial Day soccer tournament, has been sanctioned by US Soccer as a Development Academy event, we are excited to reveal three of the elite clubs who have who will be attending the largest single weekend event in the country.

La Liga Giants, Valencia CF one of the most successful clubs in Spanish football team will be competing at the 2006 age group with their U13 Boys team.  Valencia who are currently sitting in 8th position and in semi-finals of the Copa Del and last 32 of Europa League, boasts a proud history of producing young talent including David Silva (Manchester City), Isco (Real Madrid) and Jordi Alba (FC Barcelona).

Another professional club, this time closer to home, New England Revolution will be participating at the 2006 and 2005 age groups with their Development Academy teams. The Revs are a founding Development Academy member and currently have a number of homegrown players on the current first-team roster most notably Diego Fagundez, Zachary Herivaux and Scott Caldwell.

FC Westchester of New York (also DA)  will be participating at the U13 and U14 age groups. make the trip. FC Westchester will be bringing two teams to complete.

“Our slogan for GPS Tournaments is ‘Compete with the Elite’ and the addition of these four outstanding clubs helps fulfill this, ensuring that we provide the most competitive soccer tournament for clubs both locally and nationally,” said tournament Director James Hamblin.  “We are particularly pleased that Valencia will be attending as this provides our US players the chance to measure themselves against one of Spain’s top youth academies,” said Hamblin.

January 30th, Waltham, MA, 2019; GPS are proud to announce that the 2019 GPS Memorial Day Tournament has become an officially sanctioned event by the US Soccer Development Academy (USSDA). The 2018 edition of the tournament saw over 1000 teams from across the United States and Canada convene in Massachusetts making it the largest one weekend soccer tournament in the country.

USSDA recognition further expands the ability of the GPS Memorial Day Tournament to provide the highest level of competition for all teams.  All GPS Memorial Day DA brackets will fall in line with the USSDA recommendation and therefore, teams will play 3 games only (no finals) on Friday, Saturday (rest Sunday) and Monday.

These brackets will be open to U12 to U18 Boys and U13-U18 Girls with elite teams from ECNL, NPL and EDP will also participating, ensuring the top competition locally and regionally is represented.

“We are always looking to provide the best experience possible at all of our events,” said GPS National Tournament Director James Hamblin. “This event is the cornerstone of our tournament calendar and the Development Academy sanctioning is part of our continued effort to provide opportunities for all levels of competition”

The 2019 GPS Memorial Day Tournament is scheduled to begin on May 24th with the final championship game being held on Monday the 27th.  The event, which is open to U9-U19 teams, serves as a fantastic stage for players to exhibit their skills in front of college coaches. The 2018 edition of the tournament drew in 200+ coaches representing schools from DIII to DI.
